Wednesday, Oct. 9

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we did a visualization activity for a poem called My Neighbour's Dog is Purple! Ask what I visualized after each stanza. 

  • During Music, we created different patterns by tapping cups. `
  • For Math, we started to learn about what skip counting in Grade 3 looks like. This year, we are skip counting by 3's, 4's, and 25's. We looked at how a number line and hundreds chart are tools that can help us. Ask me to practice skip counting for you or to sing the songs we learned to help us remember!
  • We learned a new literacy game today called Speedy Words! Ask me how to play. 
  • During Science, we reviewed what the molecules look like for each state of matter and then created a visual journal page.

Tuesday, Oct. 8

Highlights:

  • This morning in Math, we did another target number warm up! Ask me what our target was. We also talked about how we can find out what is 10 more/10 less, 100 more/100 less is. We used a hundreds chart and also looked at the place value. After we played a game to practice.
  • For PE, we played handball. Ask me what skills I used and the different terms Mr. Newton taught us today. 
  • During Literacy, we created acrostic poems connected to either fall, autumn, or thanksgiving. Ask me what topic I chose to write about.
  • In Social Studies, we learned about the different maps we can see in the world. We then talked about the cardinal directions. Ask me what I am going to use to remember each direction!
  • Today for thoughtful Tuesday we talked about Thanksgiving and its meaning. We then wrote a note for someone we are thankful for. Ask me who I wrote my note to.

Highlights:

  • For Math, we did a new warm up called Target Number. Ask me to show some of the equations I came up with. We also talked about ordering numbers. 

  • In Literacy, we worked on editing a piece of writing. Ask me what are some of the things I need to look for. 

  • In PE, we played a new game called Handball. Ask me how we play.
  • During Science, we started to learn about the states of matter. Ask me what they are and one thing I know about them and how the picture below connects.
  • Today we had our second fire drill. Ask me to tell you what are the important things I need to remember to do during a drill.

Friday, Oct. 4

Highlights:

  • In Music we did music sharing. Ask me who shared their talents today.
  • For Field Study, we chose our sit spots and sketched our surroundings. We then wrote about the ways we feel safe at school. Ask me what I included.



  • Today for Math, we learned a new place value game called Pickle! Ask me to show you how to play this game. We only need a deck of cards, paper, and pencil.
  • We had our final reading rotation for the week. Ask me what was my favourite that I did.

Highlights:

  • In Literacy, we wrote about one of our memories from our brain pocket. Ask me to tell you about what memory I wrote about.
  • During Math, we talked about comparing numbers. On our whiteboards we drew if numbers were greater than, less than, or equal to. Ask me to tell you how to complete this Math sentence.  549 _______ 594
  • For PE, we had outside PE due to picture day. We did freedom frenzy stations.
  • In Art, we created fall leaf pictures. We used markers to make radiating warm and cool patterns.

Wednesday, Oct. 2

Highlights:

  • This morning in Math, we talked about how we can represent numbers through words! We practiced changing numbers from standard to words and then from words to standard. Ask me to turn the number 478 and 2363 to number words.
  • For PE, we continued practicing our throwing and catching skills by playing a new game that Mr. Newton invented! Ask me what I thought about the game and how we play.
  • During Literacy, we talked about digraphs and then discussed how our brain pockets help us with writing and reading. We talked about the memory pocket and came up with ideas. Ask me what is included in mine.
  • In Social Studies, we talked about some of the features of a map. We read a story called Follow That Map! Then we looked at where on the world map the four countries that we are learning about are. Ask me what the countries are.
  • For Wellness Wednesday, we talked about what regulation is and the ways we can regulate ourselves. Ask me what is an example of how I stay in the green zone.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we reviewed the different parts of speech and talked about triple scoop words. Ask me what is another way to say big, small, and tired. 
  • For Music, we played an Indigenous drum songs with our own drums. Friday will be Music sharing if you would like to share.
  • In Math, we continued learning about expanded form. Ask me to show you how to expand the number 1034.
  • During Science, we did two demonstrations that helped us review the scientific method. Ask me what happened in both the skittles and milk experiment!

  • For Thoughtful Tuesday, we wrote about someone we are thankful for and what we love about them. Ask me who I chose to write about.
