Thursday, Nov. 28

Highlights:

  • This morning in Math, we worked on practice questions that helped us review how to regroup base ten pictures and equations. 
  • During Music, we played a rhythm game using a beeper that played a sound. Ask me how this game was played!
  • For Literacy, we used our planner that we created yesterday to begin our stories. Ask me what are 3 important events I am including in my story. 
  • In Social Studies, we talked about the different landforms and regions found in India. We created our trading card for regions and wrote one fact. Ask me what is a region in India and a fact I wrote. 
  • During Science, we started to learn about the importance of force and motion. We discussed Newton's first law of motion. Ask me what this means and what the 3 types of force are. 

Reminders:

  • Conferences are tonight from 4:30pm - 8:00pm and tomorrow from 9:00am - 2:00pm. We look forward to seeing all families at their scheduled times.
  • There is no school tomorrow.

Highlights:
  • This morning in Literacy, we started our plan for a picture prompt we were given. We will be writing a story for the picture below. Ask me what my story will be about.
  • For PE, we continued learning our dance. Ask me to show you some of the new moves we learned!
  • During Math, we continued reviewing how to regroup a picture or set of numbers. We learned that when we regroup we have to ask, "Can I make a group of 10?", if I can then I have to regroup! Ask me to regroup 2 hundreds + 4 tens + 18 ones.
  • In Social Studies, we completed our landforms posters. Ask me what is my favourite landform that I included.
 

  • For Health, we read a story called A Perfectly Messed Up Story. Ask me what is the important message in the story.

Highlights:

  • In Math, we did a review on what regrouping means. We practiced regrouping base ten blocks. Ask me to regroup 5 tens + 13 ones. 
  • For PE, we had our first day of dance! We are learning a fun dance to an Aladdin song. Ask me who our dance teacher is and to show you some of the moves we learned!



  • Today in Literacy, we read the Word Collector. We then created our own visual journal of words we are collecting. Ask me what some of my words were.
  • In the afternoon, we did Art! For art, we created a mountain landscape. Ask me how we did it and why we did mountains.

Monday, Nov. 25

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy we worked on editing and learned specific marks that we can use when we edit. We had to correct a piece of writing we were given and then correct one of our own. Below are the different marks we learned!
  • For Music, we had a guest teacher and we did some different music centres. Ask me what they were and which is my favourite!
  • In Math, we did a counting circle to start our learning. Then we did a quick review of the strategies we have learned to solve addition and subtraction equations. After, we did a Show What You Know. Ask me how I felt and what strategy I chose to use. 
  • During Social Studies, we learned about the different landforms that we can see around the world. We then started a visual journal page for landforms. Ask me which ones I chose to include. 


  • In Science, we started our next unit. We are going to be learning about forces!

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we described our winter scenes and tried not to use the words see, smell, hear, taste, and feel. Ask me how I did this!
  • For PE, we did gaga ball and freedom frenzy! Ask me what were the choices today! 
  • We did our final reading rotations for the week. Ask me what word game I played this week with my group. 
  • During Field Study, we learned about what a biofact is. We then created our own pictures of a biofact in our visual journals using different branches. Ask me what details I included in mine.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Math, we practiced using the break apart strategy for solving two digit equations with no regrouping. Next week we will be working on regrouping strategies! Ask me to solve 79 - 34= using break apart.
  • For Literacy, we worked on a planner page for our winter descriptive writing. Ask me which one I chose and what senses I wrote about.

  • During PE, we had our final day of soccer. We played mini rounds of soccer and showed our skills and team work.
  • For Social Studies, we learned about the traditions and celebrations in India. Ask me what I included on my trading card.
  • In Art, we read a story called Snow Dance and then created a winter scene.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we used our water cycle planner to write a descriptive story. Ask me what details I chose to include!
  • For Music, there were different stations we went to. Some were for building rhythms, some were for playing rhythms and guessing which one it was. Ask me which I liked the most. 
  • In Math, we practiced using the break apart strategy for solving addition with no regrouping. Ask me to use this strategy to solve 74 + 25=
  • For Science, we worked on our Show What You Know for our learning on the States of Matter. Ask me how I felt about it.
  • During Health, we talked about Now Goals and Later Goals. Ask me what I wrote for each one.

Highlights:
  • This morning in Math, we reviewed how we use the stacking method to solve subtraction questions that do not require regrouping. Ask me why it is important to stack the numbers properly based on their place value!
  • We also did the Math warm up below! Ask me what some of my solutions were.
  • For PE, we played soccer. Ask me how my team did!
  • During Literacy, we started to create our plan for our water cycle writing. We are taking the perspective of a raindrop! Ask me how the cycle works.
  • In Social Studies, we talked about what traditions and celebrations we have and how this connects to our culture. Ask me which ones I chose to write about. 
  • For Health, we talked about the importance of pausing when we are making decisions or when we are in a situation that causes us to feel in the red zone. Ask me what Stop, Opt, and Go means!

 Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we used the plan that we made last week and wrote from the perspective of the weather. Ask me to tell you about what I wrote! 
  • For Math, we did a warm up called part, part, whole. Ask me what is an example of an equation I created. We also reviewed how to use the stacking strategy for adding two-digit numbers. 
  • During PE, we had our last day of skills practice and did a dribble maze! Ask me what this means!
  • In Science, we finished our learning about the states of matter and reviewed what we have learned throughout the unit. Ask me to tell you about some of the things  we reviewed.
  • For Health, we read a book called When Grandpa Gives You a Toolbox. We then talked about some different strategies we can use when something unexpected happens. Ask me to give you and example of some of the strategies.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Math, we did our addition and subtraction basic facts practice. Ask me how I did today. We also reviewed how to use base ten to solve addition. Then we used the same strategy to solve two-digit subtraction problems. Ask me to solve 85 - 43 = using this strategy.

  • In Music, we did music sharing. Ask me what people chose to share today!
  • We did our combined grade 3 recess today. It was a ton of fun getting to see everyone and playing together!
  • For Field Study, we talked about the Metis people and their importance to Canada. Ask me something I learned about the Metis people.

Reminders:

  • As the weather is changing, students are reminded to come to school dressed for the weather. 
  • The Parent Teacher Conference booking system is now open. Please book a conference for either Nov. 28 or 29.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we created a plan for our descriptive writing for weather. We chose a type of weather and took that perspective. Ask me what senses I used to describe my weather and what I wrote. 
  • For Math, we did a warm up where we created addition and subtraction equations for the target number 110. Ask me what is an example of an equation I created. We also reviewed how to use the base ten strategy for adding two-digit numbers. 


  • During PE, we played a soccer game that practiced our shooting and dribbling. Ask me what changed in the game each round. 
  • In Social Studies, we worked on our trading cards for quality of life for both our lives and those who live in India. Ask me what I included on mine.
  • For Science, we did a demonstration that helped to show the water cycle. Ask me to explain what happened in the jar below.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Math, we played place value yahtzee to practice the skills we have been working on. Ask me who won at my table!
  • We had our Remembrance Day assembly today. 


  • In Literacy, we reviewed how every sentence should have a subject and predicate. We then practiced creating super sentences that were missing one part. 
  • For Social Studies, we took our flight to India with our boarding passes! We then began to talk about the quality of life in India. Ask me what helps people in India feel safe, healthy, comfortable, and happy.
  • During Science, we talked about how to be safe around water in both the winter and summer. Ask me what are examples of safety tips that are important to remember.

  • There is no school tomorrow. 
  • Fall break is from Nov. 11 - Nov. 13. Classes resume on Nov. 14

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we read a book called The Giving Tree. This is a retelling of a Metis story. We talked about the Metis values and then wrote about which ones we show. Ask me which ones I wrote about.

  • For Math, we started a new routine to help us practice our basic facts. We then graphed how many we got correct. After, we learned how to play place value yahtzee as a group!
  • During Art, we created poppies that will decorate our wreath for our assembly. 
  • In Health, we started to create our toolbox for when we are in different zones.

  • Edo Fun Lunch is tomorrow for those that ordered.
  • There is no school on Friday.

Highlights:
  • Today in Math, we reviewed our place value show what you know. We then were able to make any corrections that were needed. 
  • For Literacy, we read a book called What is Peace? We created a web using our senses to explain what peace is. Then we turned our web into a descriptive writing piece. 

  • During PE, we continued practicing our soccer skills. We did juggling and then practiced going through a maze. 
  • In Social Studies, we learned about Indigenous Veterans Day. This is on Nov. 8. We learned about the national monument that honours indigenous veterans. Ask me what is one thing I learned.
  • During Health, we learned about tools we can use when we are in the different zones. We talked about the tools we have access to at school. Ask me what are some examples of tools I use.

Highlights:
  • For Literacy, we read two books about Remembrance Day. One was a fiction book and one was nonfiction. We then wrote about the importance of Remembrance Day and what the poppy represents. Ask me what I included in my writing. 
  • During PE, we started our soccer unit. We talked about how to dribble, trap, and juggle. 
  • In Math, we played a grocery game that helped us count money and buy different foods in various categories. Ask me what are some example of items I bought and how much I spent. 
  • Today in Science, we learned about the water cycle. Ask me how it works.
