Monday, Sept. 9

Highlights:

  • Today in Math, we reviewed our addition strategies. One was counting on and the other was doubles. Ask me to tell you what the doubles are!

  • In PE, we played Boom City to practice our throwing and catching. 
  • For Health, we read a book called David Gets in Trouble. We talked about the different zones he was in and also what calming strategies we can use to get back into the green zone. Ask me what my strategies are. 
  • We practiced a reading rotation today. We did Word Work where we played some games. We learned Boggle, Kaboom, Popcorn, and Story Cubes. Ask me which one I am excited to do.
  • In Science, we described what scientists are and what they do. Ask me what words I would use.
  • For Literacy, we talked about the different sentences types. Ask me what are some examples.

  • If you have not returned the Parent Questionnaire or the Digital Citizenship Agreement, please do so by Friday.

Happy Friday!

Highlights:

  • Today we did our first Field Study! We went outside and did a senses activity. Ask me what I was able to see, smell, feel, and hear.
  • For Music, we had our first Music Sharing Friday! Ask me what were some of the things people shared.
  • In Art, we read a book about the Lovable Kingdom. We talked about positive affirmations we can say to ourselves. We then created a picture in our journals to remind us of positive things we can say to ourselves. Ask me what I included in mine!

  • Please return forms that were sent home last week in the Green Folder by Sept. 13

Thursday, Sept. 5

Highlights:

  • Today in Math, we did another number talk where we shared our addition strategies. We then learned two Power of Ten games (Face off and Salute). Ask me which one I liked more and how we play.
  • For PE, we did Freedom Frenzy and gaga ball!
  • During Literacy, we used our web that we created yesterday and turned our ideas into sentences. Ask me what I wrote about!
  • In the afternoon, we read a booked called The Sharing Circle and then had our first one of the year. Ask me what are some important things to remember about Sharing Circles.
  • In Health, we read a story called What Do You Do With a Problem? We then talked about the differences between small, medium, and big problems. Ask what is an example of each.

Reminders:

  • Tomorrow dismissal is at 1:05pm. Students are reminded to bring a super snack as there is not a lunch time!

Wednesday, Sept. 4

Highlights:
  • Today in Math, we did a number talk to get our brains thinking about Math! Ask me what the different hand signals are that we use during this time. After, we learned how to play a new game called Wipeout! Ask me to show you how to play. 
  • For PE, we played gaga ball and then did Freedom Frenzy! Ask me how we play gaga ball.
  • In Literacy, we reviewed how to use the sound wall to help us when we are reading and writing. We then practiced spelling different words using what we talked about. After, we read a story called Some Pets and started an adjectives web.
  • In Health, we read a book called The Invisible Boy. Ask me what this story was about and what I will do to make sure no one feels invisible in our classroom.
  • During Science, we read a book called What Will I Discover? Then we wrote down questions that we will want to explore and discover. Ask me what is one question I have.

  • Please complete the forms that were sent home last week in the Green Folders. Please return them by Sept. 13

Tuesday, Sept. 3

Highlights:
  • Today we had our Welcome Back assembly. Ask me what were some of the important things that Mrs. Brinson shared with us. 
  • Mrs. Pham's class had Music with Miss. White. We talked about the expectations and then played a game!
  • For Literacy, we wrote about our summer vacations. Ask me what I included in my writing. 
  • In Math, we did a group activity. Ask me what the activity was and what we learned about working in a group.


  • In Health we read a book called What Does it Mean to be Kind? Ask me what examples I wrote of ways that I can show kindness at school.
  • We read a story called My Mouth is a Volcano. Then we did an important demonstration that showed us about the power of our words. Ask me what the demonstration was and what the story was about.

  • Forms that were sent home in the Green Folders are due back on Sept. 13

Happy Friday!

Highlights:
  • In Art we made sculptures about ourselves. Ask me what were some of the things I included and to show you my sculpture.
  • Today in PE, we met Mr. Newton and played different Freedom stations. Ask me what they were and which was my favourite.
  • We read a book called Our Class is a Family. After we wrote about what we will do to help our class and what we think our classroom should feel like, sound like, and look like. Ask me what ideas I included.

  • We had a chance to also go outside and play with the rest of our Grade 3 friends!

Reminders:
  • There is no school on Monday. See you on Tuesday!
  • Each child brought home their green folders. Please fill out and return the forms by Sept. 13

First Day of School!


Highlights:

  • This morning, we coloured a welcome to Grade Three poster to help us ease into the day. 
  • We went on a school tour and practiced how to ring the doorbell if we are ever late for school! Ask me about all the places I saw!
  • We read a story called First Day Jitters! Ask me about the surprise at the end?
  • We also read a story called A Letter From our Teacher on the First Day of School. After, we started letters to our own teacher about things we felt it was important for them to know. Ask me what I am including in my letter.
  • In Math, we did numbers about me! Ask me what I shared about myself!
  • During Health, we did a classmate scavenger hunt and learned new things about out classmates! Ask me what were some of the things I learned and the names of friends I met today.

Reminders:

  • Please bring a pair of indoor shoes if you did not bring them today.
  • Tomorrow our dismissal is at 1:05pm. Students are reminded to bring a super snack as there is no lunch.
