Tuesday, Dec. 10

Highlights:

  • This morning in Math, we reviewed addition and subtraction regrouping. Then we played the Squares game to practice our skills.

  • For PE, we continued practicing our dance for Thursday, where we will be showing it to our buddy class. Please see Mrs. Brinson's email from last week about the times if you were interested in watching.
  • During Literacy, we read How to Catch a Snowman. Then we brainstormed our own snowman traps and wrote a how-to for it. Ask me what I included in mine.
  • This afternoon we watched a video called Edgar's Christmas and then read a book called Share Some Kindness Bring Some Light. Ask me what the important message is from both of these.

  • For Thoughtful Tuesday, to connect with the video and story from above, we created cards that we will be giving to a senior's living facility in the community.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we looked at a checklist of transition words that we can use for how-to writing. Ask me which ones I included in my how-to.
  • During Music, we watched a video of the story of the Nutcracker and then we played with the parachute.
  • For Math, we worked on two-digit addition with regrouping. We used the stacking method. Ask me to solve 45 + 67 = 
  • In Science, we learned about the different simple machines we can see in the world. Ask me what are some examples we talked about.

Highlights:

  • Today in Literacy, we read a story called How to Give Your Cat a Bath. We then talked about the importance of using specific action words when creating a how-to. Ask me what are some examples of action words.
  • In PE, we did a run through of our dance a couple times. We have done an excellent job learning the steps. 

  • For Math, we reviewed two-digit subtraction with regrouping using base ten blocks and then did three digit. After we played a new game called Squares which helped us practice our adding within 1000.
  • In Field Study, we did an exploration on snow. We did a fun demonstration where we created fake snow in three different ways. Ask me what we used and what each one felt like.

Reminders:

  • Tuesday is Festive Sock and Hat/Headwear Day. Students are encouraged to participate in this fun spirit day.

Highlights:

  • For Math, we worked on two digit subtraction with regrouping using the base ten blocks. Ask me to show you how to use this strategy for 71 - 27 =
  • In PE, we finished our dance! We will be practicing our dance some more and showing our dance next week. Please see Mrs. Brinson's weekly update for more information about the time. 
  • Today in Literacy, we did our first how-to writing. Ask me what I chose to write about and the steps I included.
  • In Art, we created northern lights winter picture. Ask me what technique we used. 
  • For Social Studies, we learned about the leadership in India. Ask me what is one thing that is the same and different to our leadership.

Wednesday, Dec. 4

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we read a story called How to Read a Story and then in our fact pocket we wrote how 3 ideas of something we know how to do. Ask me what I included in my list.
  • For Music, we wrote down the patterns that Miss. White recorded on the buttons. We also watch a short called Loop.
  • During Math, we continued working on solving 3-digit addition equations using base ten pictures. 
  • In Science, we did different demonstrations of contact forces and learned about applying different strengths and forces. Ask me about what we did to show each one.
  • For Social Studies, we learned about leadership and who the leaders of our city, province, and country are. We also talked about what qualities make a good leader. Ask me what my group came up with.

  • Fun Lunch tomorrow for those that orded.
  • If you ordered an NLS shirt or hoodie, they were sent home today. Please check your child's backpack.

Highlights:

  • In Math, we did a quick review on how to add 3 digit numbers that don't require regrouping. Then we practiced using the base ten strategy for solving addition equations that have regrouping. Ask me to solve 347 + 285 = 
  • During PE, we continued learning our dance. Ask me what new moves we added.
  • In Literacy, we learned about plural nouns and how their endings change. Ask me what is an example of a word that has an -es, and -ies ending.
  • For Social Studies, we learned about the way people in India adapt to their environment.
  • Today in Science, we started a visual journal page for contact forces. Ask me to review what they are and the examples I am going to include.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we listened to a story called Wish Tree and then we created our own wishes for our community. Ask me what wish I put on the tree.
  • For PE, we continued practicing and learning our dance. Ask me to show you the parts I remember. 

  • During Math, we started to learn about two-digit addition with regrouping. We used the base ten strategy to help us solve questions. Ask me to solve 53 + 29 = with this strategy. 
  • In Science, we learned about the different contact forces. Ask me what the four different types are and examples. 
  • During Social Studies we talked about the importance of adapting to the environment that we are in. Ask me what are some of the ways I adapt. 

Reminders:

  • Tomorrow is Red and Green Day. Students are welcome to dress in red and green!

  • Subway Fun Lunch is on Thursday for those that ordered. 
  • Please have an extra pair of pants and socks in your children's backpacks as the weather will warm up this week and we are expecting wet and slushy snow.
