Friday, Jan. 10

   Highlights:

  • This morning in Math, we asked our classmates our survey questions that we made yesterday. We then used the data to create a bar graph. Ask me to tell you what option got the most votes and what got the least.   
  • Today we played Freedom Frenzy in P.E. Ask me how it went!
  • In Literacy, we reviewed syllables. Ask me to tell what a syllable is and how many syllables are in the words below.

  • During social studies, we took a virtual flight to Peru and began looking at some of the popular sights that are in Peru. 
  • For Field Study, we went on a winter walk and collected winter syllable words. We also learned about Haiku poems. We plan to use these winter words to create our own Haiku poems about our walk.

  Highlights:

  • This morning in Math, we learned about second-hand and first-hand data before making our own research questions that we will ask our classmates tomorrow. Ask me to tell you the difference between first-hand and second-hand data and what my survey question is!
  • In Literacy, we practiced writing words with different suffixes. Ask me to give you some examples of words with an -est ending, -s ending, and -ly ending. 
  • During Health, we continued to work on our 2024/2025 visual journal page.
  • We had our last day of Mission Impossible in P.E. today. Ask me to tell you what my favourite part was. 
  • For Art, we learned about different art styles that are popular in India. Ask me to tell you what style is my favourite and why. 
  • We are starting our next country that we will be learning about in Social Studies. Ask me what country it is and what I want to learn about it!

  • This morning in Math, we learned about bar graphs and using the data to answer different questions. Ask me to tell you about the graph below!
  • In Literacy, we read a book called The Perfectly Perfect Wish! Ask me to summarize the story and to tell you what I think the authors message was. 
  • During Health, Ms. Muma's class continued to work on our visual journal page reflecting on our 2024 highlights and 2025 goals. 
  • For Music, we listened to a song and reflected on it. Ask me what I thought!
  • In Science, Ms. Muma's class did experiments connected to pulleys and wheels. Ask me what I did!
  • During Word Work, we learned about different suffixes. Ask me to give you some examples of words with an -ing ending and -ed ending.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we completed our winter break paragraphs based on the interviews we did with a classmate. In Mrs. Pham's class we checked our work using our writing checklist and then shared our writing with each other. 

  • For Literacy, Ms. Muma's class read our class novel "Fing". We then practiced answering questions based on the story and summarizing the important events. Ask me to tell you about the important events in the chapter we read today. 
  • In Math, we learned about dot and line plots. We created each using different data that we were given. Ask me what is the difference between each.
  • For PE, we continued with Mission Impossible. Ask me how I did today.
  • In Science, Mrs. Pham's class did centres connected to the wedge and inclined planes. Ask me what activities we did. 
  • In Science, Ms. Muma's class did experiments connected to wedges and levers. Ask me to tell you about the activities that we did!

  • During Health, Ms. Muma's worked on a visual journal page reflecting on our 2024 highlights and 2025 goals. Ask me to tell you about my highlights and goals!
  • For Health, Mrs. Pham's read a story called Gratitude is My Superpower! We then started a gratitude/reflection journal. Ask me what we wrote about today!

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we interviewed a classmate about their winter break. We then began to write a short paragraph using the information we gathered. Ask me what is one thing I learned about my partner.
  • In Math, we collected first-hand data using a tally chart. Ask me what questions I surveyed.
  • In Ms. Muma's class, we turned second-hand data into a talley chart. 
  • During PE, we had our first day of Mission Impossible. Ask me what sorts of obstacles I had to go through.
  • In Science, Mrs. Pham's class did simple machines centres related to levers. Ask me what I did and to tell you about the different positions of a fulcrum.
  • In Science, Ms. Muma's class did simple machines centres related to inclined planes. Ask me what I did and to tell you about how the steepness of the ramp changes the movement of the car.
  • In Health, Ms. Muma's class learned about goal setting and how to make S.M.A.R.T. goals. Ask me what this means!

  • For Music, we did music sharing Friday! Ask me about the different songs we did.  
  • During Math, Mrs. Pham's class did a graphing activity connected to the Snowmen at Night. Ask me what activity I chose. 
  • We had our Grade 3 movie time! Ask me what movie I chose to watch.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Math, Mrs. Pham's class did a show what you know for addition and subtraction. Ask me how I felt about it.
  • During PE, we played snowman battle. Ask me how we play!
  • For Literacy, Mrs. Pham's class read a story called Snowmen at Night. We then created a plan for what we would do if we were snowmen. Ask me what events and details I included in my plan.

  • In the afternoon, Mrs. Pham's class created a snowman picture using oil pastel to go along with the story we read. We practiced shading and blending. 



Reminders:

  • Tomorrow is Pajama Day! We will also be watching a movie so students are welcome to bring a movie snack to enjoy while they watch.

Highlights:

  • In Mrs. Pham's class for Literacy we continued working on our Christmas around the world comparisons. Ask me what I included in the similarities and differences sections of my visual journal.

  • In Ms. Muma's class, we used our winter activities planning page from yesterday to write about our favourite winter memories. After writing, we did an authors share. Ask me what I wrote about!
  • For Math, Mrs. Pham's class worked on fact families. We reviewed how addition and subtraction are related. Ask me to show you the fact family for the numbers 24, 32, 56.
  • During Math, Ms. Muma's class worked on solving word problems. Ask me what R.I.C.E. stands for. 
  • In Social Studies, we finished our brain dumps for India. Ask me what was my favourite thing to learn about.


Reminders:

  • Pajama day is on Friday.
  • Students are reminded to dress warmly for school.

Highlights:

  • In Math, we worked on solving addition and subtractions word problems. Ask me what are the key words that help us figure out if we are adding our subtracting.
  • In Ms. Muma's class, we learned about fact families during math. Ask me what they are and to create the fact family for the numbers 5, 7, and 12.
  • For Literacy, we began exploring how Christmas is celebrated around the world. Ask me what is one way it is celebrated in another country.
  • During Music, we played the nutcracker with boomwhackers. 
  • In Social Studies, we are working on a "brain dump" on India. Ask me what this means and what I have included so far in my work. 
  • For Thoughtful Tuesday we created cards to go along with our craft from yesterday. Ask me how we created the front of our card.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we did a writing activity where we had to write how to build a gingerbread house. Ask me what steps I included.
  • For PE, we played Santa's Workshop. Ask me how play this fun game. 


  • During Math, we learned about how we can estimate the sums and differences of equations. We had to use our rounding skills to help us do this! Ask me to estimate the sum for 46 + 85=




  • In the afternoon, we created a fun surprise craft. We can't wait to show you what we made!

Reminders:

  • Tomorrow is Festive Day. Students are welcome to wear festive shirts, sweaters, socks, hats/headwear. Anything to celebrate the holidays!
  • Friday is PJ Day.

Highlights:

  • Today in Math, we learned about using the break apart strategy for 3 digit subtraction questions that have regrouping. Please practice skip counting backwards from any number with me. For example, start at 226 and end at 116 by 10's. 
  • For Science, we learned about different indigenous tools that they used in the past. Ask me what materials they use and what the tool was for.

  • We had our grade 3 recess. It was fun!
  • After, we did some finish up work for things we had to complete.

Reminders:

  • Next Thursday, is Kernels snack day. If you were wanting to order please do so by Saturday on the Healthy Hunger website.
  • Tuesday is Festive Sweater Day. Students are welcome to participate!
  • Friday is PJ Day!

Highlights:

  • Today we had the opportunity to share the dance we have been learning over the past few weeks. It was a ton of fun and we all did AMAZING!

  • For Math, we played a subtraction version of the Squares game. We practiced subtracting equations up to 1000.

  • In Music, first we watched different holiday videos and songs. Then we used the cups to play the nutcracker song. 
  • During Literacy, we began to write a how-to for building a snowman.
  • In Science, we did a demonstration for how simple machines help our lives. Ask me what happened in the demonstration.


  • For Social Studies, we learned about the goods and services in India. Ask me what is an example of each.
