Friday, Dec. 20

Highlights:
  • This morning in Literacy, Mrs. Pham's class use their snowmen at night plan to write expanded and detailed sentences. Ask me what I included in the writing. 

  • This Morning, Ms. Muma's class show what you know for addition and subtraction. Ask me how I felt about it!
  • For Music, we did music sharing Friday! Ask me about the different songs we did.  
  • During Math, Mrs. Pham's class did a graphing activity connected to the Snowmen at Night. Ask me what activity I chose. 
  • We had our Grade 3 movie time! Ask me what movie I chose to watch.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Math, Mrs. Pham's class did a show what you know for addition and subtraction. Ask me how I felt about it.
  • During PE, we played snowman battle. Ask me how we play!
  • For Literacy, Mrs. Pham's class read a story called Snowmen at Night. We then created a plan for what we would do if we were snowmen. Ask me what events and details I included in my plan.

  • In the afternoon, Mrs. Pham's class created a snowman picture using oil pastel to go along with the story we read. We practiced shading and blending. 



Reminders:

  • Tomorrow is Pajama Day! We will also be watching a movie so students are welcome to bring a movie snack to enjoy while they watch.

Highlights:

  • In Mrs. Pham's class for Literacy we continued working on our Christmas around the world comparisons. Ask me what I included in the similarities and differences sections of my visual journal.

  • In Ms. Muma's class, we used our winter activities planning page from yesterday to write about our favourite winter memories. After writing, we did an authors share. Ask me what I wrote about!
  • For Math, Mrs. Pham's class worked on fact families. We reviewed how addition and subtraction are related. Ask me to show you the fact family for the numbers 24, 32, 56.
  • During Math, Ms. Muma's class worked on solving word problems. Ask me what R.I.C.E. stands for. 
  • In Social Studies, we finished our brain dumps for India. Ask me what was my favourite thing to learn about.


Reminders:

  • Pajama day is on Friday.
  • Students are reminded to dress warmly for school.

Highlights:

  • In Math, we worked on solving addition and subtractions word problems. Ask me what are the key words that help us figure out if we are adding our subtracting.
  • In Ms. Muma's class, we learned about fact families during math. Ask me what they are and to create the fact family for the numbers 5, 7, and 12.
  • For Literacy, we began exploring how Christmas is celebrated around the world. Ask me what is one way it is celebrated in another country.
  • During Music, we played the nutcracker with boomwhackers. 
  • In Social Studies, we are working on a "brain dump" on India. Ask me what this means and what I have included so far in my work. 
  • For Thoughtful Tuesday we created cards to go along with our craft from yesterday. Ask me how we created the front of our card.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we did a writing activity where we had to write how to build a gingerbread house. Ask me what steps I included.
  • For PE, we played Santa's Workshop. Ask me how play this fun game. 


  • During Math, we learned about how we can estimate the sums and differences of equations. We had to use our rounding skills to help us do this! Ask me to estimate the sum for 46 + 85=




  • In the afternoon, we created a fun surprise craft. We can't wait to show you what we made!

Reminders:

  • Tomorrow is Festive Day. Students are welcome to wear festive shirts, sweaters, socks, hats/headwear. Anything to celebrate the holidays!
  • Friday is PJ Day.

Highlights:

  • Today in Math, we learned about using the break apart strategy for 3 digit subtraction questions that have regrouping. Please practice skip counting backwards from any number with me. For example, start at 226 and end at 116 by 10's. 
  • For Science, we learned about different indigenous tools that they used in the past. Ask me what materials they use and what the tool was for.

  • We had our grade 3 recess. It was fun!
  • After, we did some finish up work for things we had to complete.

Reminders:

  • Next Thursday, is Kernels snack day. If you were wanting to order please do so by Saturday on the Healthy Hunger website.
  • Tuesday is Festive Sweater Day. Students are welcome to participate!
  • Friday is PJ Day!

Highlights:

  • Today we had the opportunity to share the dance we have been learning over the past few weeks. It was a ton of fun and we all did AMAZING!

  • For Math, we played a subtraction version of the Squares game. We practiced subtracting equations up to 1000.

  • In Music, first we watched different holiday videos and songs. Then we used the cups to play the nutcracker song. 
  • During Literacy, we began to write a how-to for building a snowman.
  • In Science, we did a demonstration for how simple machines help our lives. Ask me what happened in the demonstration.


  • For Social Studies, we learned about the goods and services in India. Ask me what is an example of each.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy we read a story called The Magical Snowflake. 
  • We did a buddy activity with the Kinders. We helped them create their cards for the seniors. Ask me what my buddies name was!



  • In Math, we worked on using the stacking strategy to solve 3 digit subtraction questions. Ask me to solve 423 - 189 = 
  • For Social Studies, we talked about what the difference is between goods and services and came up with different examples. Then we discussed what imports and exports are. My job tonight is to look around the house and find what countries different items are exported from!

  • Tomorrow we will be sharing our dance that we have learned to our buddy class. If you are interested in watching, please see the email that Mrs. Brinson had sent out last week for the times and it is also on the school website.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Math, we reviewed addition and subtraction regrouping. Then we played the Squares game to practice our skills.

  • For PE, we continued practicing our dance for Thursday, where we will be showing it to our buddy class. Please see Mrs. Brinson's email from last week about the times if you were interested in watching.
  • During Literacy, we read How to Catch a Snowman. Then we brainstormed our own snowman traps and wrote a how-to for it. Ask me what I included in mine.
  • This afternoon we watched a video called Edgar's Christmas and then read a book called Share Some Kindness Bring Some Light. Ask me what the important message is from both of these.

  • For Thoughtful Tuesday, to connect with the video and story from above, we created cards that we will be giving to a senior's living facility in the community.

Highlights:

  • This morning in Literacy, we looked at a checklist of transition words that we can use for how-to writing. Ask me which ones I included in my how-to.
  • During Music, we watched a video of the story of the Nutcracker and then we played with the parachute.
  • For Math, we worked on two-digit addition with regrouping. We used the stacking method. Ask me to solve 45 + 67 = 
  • In Science, we learned about the different simple machines we can see in the world. Ask me what are some examples we talked about.

Highlights:

  • Today in Literacy, we read a story called How to Give Your Cat a Bath. We then talked about the importance of using specific action words when creating a how-to. Ask me what are some examples of action words.
  • In PE, we did a run through of our dance a couple times. We have done an excellent job learning the steps. 

  • For Math, we reviewed two-digit subtraction with regrouping using base ten blocks and then did three digit. After we played a new game called Squares which helped us practice our adding within 1000.
  • In Field Study, we did an exploration on snow. We did a fun demonstration where we created fake snow in three different ways. Ask me what we used and what each one felt like.

  • Tuesday is Festive Sock and Hat/Headwear Day. Students are encouraged to participate in this fun spirit day.
